Robert’s story isn’t about luck—it’s about resilience. In 2008, after a layoff from the cable news industry during the recession, he found himself at a crossroads. Unsure of what was next, it was a few close friends—seasoned barbers—who saw something in him. They pushed him to pick up the clippers and take a chance on a new path.

But in truth, the barber’s chair wasn’t unfamiliar. Growing up, Robert’s stepdad was a talented barber, and some of his earliest memories were sitting in that chair, getting his haircut with a grocery bag as a cape and soaking in the craft without even realizing it. Those moments planted a seed that would eventually grow into a lifelong calling.

With the guidance of his mentors and that early inspiration, Robert threw himself into the trade, enrolling in barber college with his severance check, committed to doing things the right way, with skill, care, and pride in every cut.

From Silicon Valley’s Tech Giants to Centerville’s Historic Streets

That hard work opened doors—leading to a rare opportunity as the company barber at Facebook’s (now Meta) headquarters. But when the pandemic forced that chapter to close, Robert went back to his roots and focused on building something for the community.

In 2022, he opened The Company Barber in Fremont’s historic Centerville District—a shop built on tradition, not trends. A place where independent barbers take pride in their craft, and customers get more than just a haircut. Vintage chairs, old-school décor, and a belief that a great cut should feel as good as it looks.

That dedication didn’t go unnoticed. The Company Barber was proudly honored with Best of Fremont awards in both 2024 and 2025—a recognition we’re humbled by and grateful for every day. But none of this would’ve been possible without the talented barbers who chose to be part of this journey. Their skill, professionalism, and pride in their craft have played a huge role in the shop’s success.

Together, we’ve built more than just a barbershop—we’ve built a place where craftsmanship thrives, and every customer walks out feeling like they got more than just a haircut.

Now Serving Union City

As we grow, we’re excited to bring that same craftsmanship and community spirit to our newest shop on Whipple Road in Union City. It’s a soft opening for now, but the chairs are ready, and the tradition continues.
